Photographers Group Challenge ... "Abstract" Imagery

Tue Feb 14, 2012 8:53 AM EST
arts, art, challenge, abstract, photo-challenge, photographers-group
By A. Macarthur

Some people try to find heaven-on-earth, I like to raise a little hell by combining the two entities in one visual image.

If you ask me nicely, I'll (eventually) tell you what this is/was ... before I messed with it.

"The Hand of Fate"

Yikes! It took "balls" for me to do this one.

By definition, ABSTRACT ART is ...

"Art that does not attempt to represent external, recognizable reality but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures."

That's the formal, art historical definition; but artists are not bound by rules and codification necessarily. There are no ART POLICE to prevent a painter, photographer, illustrator or digital artist from stretching a concept or intertwining motifs or styles.

So, now that I've "justified" in advance, some of my abstract art/photographs ...

See what you think of these.

When Art 'speaks' to someone, then it is art...The Hand of Fate is one such for me. I hope many take your challenge can't wait to see what others do. :)

The second image is/was an Art Deco lamppost in Hollywood.

Damammatess,

Your images are also in the groove ...

Is that 60's or 70's or 80's vernacular?

I think of The Hand of Fate as being somewhat Dali-esque. I wonder though if the clock should be set at just before, or right on 12. Another name for the photo could be "Destiny Has Taken a Hand" (which is a quote from Casablanca)

Hey Buzz,

Dali would have melted the clock until it semi-liquified and hung it over a tree limb.

I do like your alternate title, so ...

Here's lookin' at you, kid."

Situations change ... slowly ... evolutionary, or ...

Dramatically ... revolutionary.

Adapt ...

Or perish.

Every human being possesses a degree of creativity, Al. Was it not creative to initiate and promote a RAV for a fellow (very deserving) Newsviner?
